BvF provided bridge inspection engineering services as a Team Leader and Assistant Team Leader for the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge and its approach structures. The inspection covered critical components, including decks, structural framing, suspension cables, towers, and anchorages, as well as signs, light standards, and electrical equipment on the bridges and ORT (Open Road Tolling) facilities.
BvF performed thorough hands-on inspections of suspension cables, trusses, girders, and the orthotropic deck, as well as visual inspections of electrical panels to identify corrosion or water infiltration. The team was responsible for data collection, field notes, and preparing inspection documentation in line with NYSDOT requirements, including narrative reports with repair recommendations and cost estimates.
In 2020, BvF also conducted Special Inspections, verifying Yellow Flags, reinspecting elements rated CS-3 and CS-4, and measuring relative humidity inside strand chamber enclosures at both the Bronx and Queens Anchorages.
