The NYC Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) realigned traffic under the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) at Park Avenue and Grand Avenue to enhance vehicular and pedestrian safety. This project created a new throughway and transformed the space beneath the BQE into a public area accessible to the surrounding community.
BvF’s Role:
BvF provided comprehensive Traffic Design Services, which included:
- Developing vehicular and pedestrian flow maps for peak hours.
- Collecting and analyzing traffic data, including ATR counts, turning movements, and pedestrian/bicycle counts.
- Conducting a physical inventory of lane widths, parking regulations, and sidewalk dimensions.
- Performing traffic analysis using Synchro software, reporting on volume-to-capacity ratios, delays, and queue lengths.
- Conducting crash/collision data analysis.
- Compiling a report with findings and recommendations for the best design options.
